Tessa Does Shakespeare
In March of 2010, I began a project to memorize and record a Shakespearean monologue every month until my debut novel is released.* Why do such a crazy thing, you ask? Two reasons:
- BLOOD MAGIC has quite a bit of references to Shakespeare’s work, because one of the main characters is an actress. There are shades of “Macbeth” and “The Tempest” especially.
- I used to act all the time. Theater was my high school passion, and I miss it! I also have lost plenty of the memorization skills I used to have, and this was a way to practice again!
Recently it was pointed out to me that I neglected Hamlet during my year-o-Shakespeare. So without further ado:
Hamlet Rants on the Internet:
Here’s a sampling, from “King Lear.”
And from “Macbeth.”
In addition to this, I’ve done the following:
-Juliet from Romeo and Juliet
-Helena from A Midsummer Night’s Dream
-Hal and Hotspur, from Henry IV, part I
-Lady Percy from Henry IV, part II
AND for a special treat, Maggie Stiefvater, Brenna Yovanoff, Natalie Parker, Carrie Ryan, Jackson Pearce and David Malcom Graham star in a brilliantly pantomimed action sequence from Romeo and Juliet: EVERYBODY DOES SHAKESPEARE!!!
They’re all gathered up on My Youtube Channel.
* I didn’t manage it for every month, because I switched to recording performances from my own book. Which you can see at the BLOOD MAGIC SNEAK PEAK page.
